Assistant Import Manager

Q-Sourcing is recruiting, on behalf of its client, an Assistant Import Manager based in Kampala for a road-transport and freight-forwarding business operating across Uganda and the DRC. You will support the Import Manager in tracking inbound shipments on the Kampala–DRC routes (Kisangani and Beni) and monitoring the Mombasa–Kampala corridor that feeds them.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow trucks from Kampala to final delivery in Kisangani and Beni, and monitor containers and trucks from Mombasa through Kenya to the Ugandan ICDs.
• Track truck positions on the GPS platform several times a day, flag stops and delays, and maintain the daily position report.
• Keep clients and internal teams updated on status and ETA changes.
• Follow trucks through the Uganda–DRC border points and liaise with drivers, clearing agents and border staff; escalate holds early with a proposed fix.
• Prepare, check and file import and transit documents for each shipment.
• Follow up clearing agents and track containers at ICDs and depots.
• Monitor free days, storage and demurrage dates, and follow up empty container returns.
• Gather proof of delivery to help validate subcontractor work, keep trackers up to date, and back up the Import Manager when needed.

Requirements

• Ugandan national, based in Kampala.
• 1–3 years of experience in import, transit, clearing or transport operations.
• Solid understanding of logistics and freight forwarding, the Mombasa–Kampala and Uganda–DRC corridors, border procedures and ICD operations.
• Comfortable with GPS truck-tracking platforms, Excel and daily reporting.
• Organised, detail-oriented and able to follow many shipments at once.
• Good communicator; English required, Swahili and/or French an asset.
• Integrity in handling documents and supplier relationships.
