Communication Officer

AVSI Foundation, with financial support from the Embassy of Ireland, is implementing the Vocational Education and Skilling Programme (VESP) 2023–2027 in the Karamoja region. The programme aims to increase gainful employment opportunities for youth in Moroto, Nakapiripiriti, and Kotido Districts. AVSI is looking for a skilled Communication Officer to be based in Moroto and lead communication and documentation efforts across the programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement information and communication strategies in support of the organisation’s programme objectives.
• Develop internal communication guidelines and tools to strengthen organisational networking and coordination.
• Produce high-quality graphics for reports, publications, and programme materials.
• Document project change stories, maintain a well-organised archive of project photographs, and manage social media updates.
• Provide quality photography and videography coverage of programme activities.
• Produce 3D animation content as required.
• Serve as event rapporteur and record accurate minutes for meetings and workshops.

Requirements

• A degree in Mass Communications, Development Communication, Journalism, or a related field is preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in design tools including InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Premiere Pro.
• Strong photography and filming skills with excellent written communication abilities.
• Previous experience with international organisations or consultancy assignments, particularly in strategic communications planning.
• Sound knowledge of AVSI Foundation’s work and mandate.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
• Willingness to be based in Moroto and travel frequently within the Karamoja implementation area.
• Cultural sensitivity, patience, flexibility, and a strong commitment to integrity.
