Counsellor

Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) is looking for a Counsellor to provide HIV counselling and psychosocial support to clients, patients, research participants and communities. The job involves fieldwork in study communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide HIV pre-test and post-test counselling and ongoing psychosocial support.
• Manage HIV prevention and care activities and support ongoing programmes.
• Plan, implement and monitor client testing services.
• Provide intensive adherence counselling to clients who are not virally suppressed.
• Support couples and partner counselling, disclosure, community mobilisation and health education.
• Prepare field reports on research and activities and support data collection.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in counselling and guidance, social work or psychology.
• Fluency in English and Luganda.
• Client counselling skills and readiness to engage with communities.
• Willingness to work in rural areas.
• About 1 year of experience; HIV counselling experience, specialised HIV counselling and testing training and the ability to ride a motorcycle (with a permit) are added advantages.
