True North Consult Ltd is looking for a Data Center Design Engineer in Kampala to lead the design of data centre facilities from architecture and layout through to power, cooling and low-voltage systems, within its Delivery and Service department.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the overall architecture and layout of data centres, including zoning, space planning and building design, in line with standards such as TIA-942 and GB 50174
- Lead or coordinate electrical (UPS, power distribution, generators), mechanical (HVAC, airflow, hot/cold aisles) and low-voltage (structured cabling, BMS, DCIM) design
- Produce construction drawings, equipment specifications, BOQs and technical proposals
- Work with structural, fire protection and architectural teams to resolve clashes, and support bid clarification meetings
- Plan power, cooling and network capacity with suitable redundancy (N+1, 2N) while meeting PUE targets
- Join site surveys, commissioning and testing, and help resolve design issues during construction
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical/HVAC Engineering, Automation or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience designing large-scale data centres or complex MEP projects
- Full-cycle design experience on large projects is preferred
- Preferred certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE/CEng), LEED AP, Uptime ATD or CDCP
- Deep knowledge of TIA-942, GB 50174 and Uptime Tier standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM) and electrical/HVAC design tools; CFD airflow simulation is a plus
- Familiarity with generators, UPS, free cooling and liquid cooling, plus PUE optimisation
- Strong coordination skills, ability to work under pressure, and willingness to travel for site support
