The World Health Organization (WHO) Uganda is mobilising 100 online volunteers to power a digital Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) campaign on Ebola. Working entirely online, you will help raise public awareness of Ebola risks and prevention, encourage people to seek health care early, push back against the myths and misinformation spreading on social platforms, and deepen community engagement through digital channels.
This is an unpaid UN Volunteers (UNV) assignment — a chance to contribute to a public health response while building real experience in health communication and digital campaigning.
What You Will Do
Content development
- Create culturally relevant digital content — graphics, short videos, infographics and posts.
- Turn technical public-health information into clear, accessible messages for different audiences.
- Adapt content for Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, WhatsApp and TikTok.
Social media engagement
- Share approved awareness messages across your personal and community networks.
- Respond to comments and questions using approved guidance.
- Keep campaign hashtags and messaging consistent.
Misinformation monitoring
- Spot and report Ebola-related rumours and misinformation circulating online.
- Help shape corrective messaging that aligns with WHO guidelines.
Campaign support
- Join online coordination meetings and briefings.
- Bring fresh ideas to grow content reach and engagement.
- Support real-time communication during outbreak updates and alerts.
Data and feedback
- Track engagement metrics such as likes, shares and comments where available.
- Report back on community perceptions and the trends you observe online.
Expected Outputs

- A background in communications, public health, social sciences, media or a related field is desirable.
- Experience in social media management, content creation or digital marketing.
- Experience in public-health communication or community engagement is an added advantage.
- Strong written and visual communication skills.
- Creativity and the ability to simplify technical information.
- Good digital literacy and familiarity with social media tools.
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines.
Language
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an advantage.

Support and Training
- You will work under the guidance of WHO Uganda’s RCCE / Communication team and coordinate virtually with assigned focal persons.
- Orientation on Ebola and WHO communication guidelines, plus briefing materials and communication toolkits.
- Access to IEC materials and campaign toolkits, with ongoing technical guidance and feedback.
Conditions of Service
- This is a voluntary, unpaid assignment under the UN Volunteers programme.
- Flexible working hours, estimated at 5–10 hours per week.
- Volunteers receive a certificate of appreciation on successful completion.

- Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Never share unverified health information.
