Environment Inspector (Mining )

NEMA is hiring an Environment Inspector (Mining) in Kampala to help manage the environmental and social impacts of mining and geothermal development.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to work plans and budgets.
• Assist in monitoring and coordinating Environment and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and Strategic Environment Assessments in the mining and geothermal industry.
• Help coordinate compliance monitoring and inspections of mining and geothermal activities.
• Advise the Authority on procedures and guidelines for ESIAs, and help coordinate lead agency participation in reviews.
• Support capacity building, public awareness, applied research and licensing of waste streams in these industries.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• An honours bachelor of science degree in environment and natural resources, physical or natural sciences, or geology and chemistry.
• Strong analytical, report writing, presentation and communication skills.
• Good ICT skills and knowledge of conservation planning and the mitigation hierarchy.
