IT Security Officer

BRAC Uganda Bank is hiring an IT Security Officer in Kampala to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the bank’s electronic information. The role sits at the centre of risk, policy and compliance work across the technology team.

Key Responsibilities

• Test the functionality and effectiveness of information security safeguards.
• Carry out risk assessments and compliance checks on running systems and new projects, recommend fixes for vulnerabilities and track their remediation with the relevant departments.
• Run IT security awareness training for system users and report regularly to the Manager IT Security on vulnerabilities, breaches, attacks and survey feedback.
• Enforce and maintain policies, procedures and controls that protect the bank’s information.
• Develop and implement information security and disaster recovery programmes in line with approved standards, and keep incident response and disaster recovery plans in place.
• Manage remediation of audit issues raised by the Risk and Audit team and review the ICT business continuity plan and its tests.
• Track compliance of security controls such as antivirus and operating system patches and follow up with control owners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a related field.
• Relevant certification such as CISSP, CISA, CEH, CISM or Security+.
• About 2 years of relevant experience.
• Solid experience in cyber security controls and incident handling, and knowledge of banking regulations on cyber security and technology risk.
• Experience with vulnerability scanning and auditing tools, IDS architectures, firewalls and secure messaging.
• Strong communication, leadership and analytical skills, with the ability to explain security concepts to technical and non-technical staff.
