The British Council is the UK’s leading international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, working with over 100 countries across arts and culture, English language, and education. The British Council is recruiting Master Trainers to support delivery of the Youth Connect Inclusive Economic Empowerment (IEE) Pathways Programme in Uganda — a structured initiative designed to transition young people into decent employment or sustainable enterprise through foundational skills, work exposure, and mentoring. This is a contract assignment commencing August 2026, with an expected workload of approximately 15 days per year, at a daily rate of £150.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and contextualise centrally developed training materials for the Uganda setting, ensuring consistency and practical usability.
- Collaborate with delivery partners and fellow Master Trainers to maintain technical accuracy and contextual relevance.
- Train facilitators through a Train-the-Trainer programme and provide ongoing coaching to ensure adherence to programme standards and pedagogy.
- Model effective facilitation practices and support trainers to confidently deliver the IEE curriculum modules.
- Compile training reports and document lessons learned, challenges, and emerging trends from sessions.
- Validate trainers by observing performance against agreed criteria and producing structured, objective validation reports.
- Oversee and support mentoring and coaching of young participants during programme placements, including through digital platforms.
- Develop and nurture communities of practice among programme facilitators.
- Contribute to Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEAL) by capturing stories of change and feeding insights into learning forums and programme reviews.
- Uphold British Council professional standards, creating safe, inclusive, and participatory learning environments throughout all activities.

- Demonstrated expertise in livelihoods, entrepreneurship, skills development, or formal employment, with the ability to translate theory into practical, market-relevant learning.
- Strong facilitation and training skills, with proven experience delivering youth-centred, participatory learning sessions.
- Understanding of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) approaches and experience working with diverse groups.
- Leadership and mentoring capacity to build the skills and confidence of facilitators and young participants.
- Knowledge of Uganda’s labour market landscape and youth economic realities.
- Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Willingness to travel within Uganda for workshops and stakeholder engagements.
- Applicants must be resident in Uganda with full legal right to live and work in the country.
