Weekend Plug: Diamond Hits Lugogo, Smirnoff Goes Spooky

Halloween weekend, month-end pay, and Diamond Platnumz in town. Kampala’s calendar is not shy this time. Here’s where to be, who’s paying, and who’s got something to prove.
Tonight: Comedy Store Turns 10
Who: Comedy Store Uganda’s 10th anniversary, with Diamond headlining.
Where: Lugogo Cricket Oval.
When: Friday, October 30.
Sponsor: none announced yet.
Tickets: through the organiser.
Galaxy FM says it’s Diamond’s first major Kampala performance since 2019. It also reports that Zari Hassan and Zuchu are both expected, which would put the exes’ era and the current era under one roof. Neither has confirmed it.
Demand looks real. Big Eye reported last week that boss Alex Muhangi‘s Comedy Store WhatsApp business line got blocked after a flood of messages. When the booking line breaks, that’s either a hit show or a very patient crowd.
If the soap opera shows up, the comedians have to compete with it. Bold plan for a comedy night.
Saturday: Spooky on a Student Budget
Who: Smirnoff Halloween Fiesta, with DJs Etania, 007, Ri Deejay, Dreadlazer, Alisha, Wiz J and Dranix, and Pest MC, Saint Trevor, Ursh Trey, Benjhi MC and Josh MC on hype duty.
Where: Servite Hostel, Kyambogo University.
When: Saturday, October 31.
Sponsor: Smirnoff Uganda.
Tickets: entry is a Smirnoff Ice of your choice.
Smirnoff is calling this stop part of its nationwide tour. Expect costumes, photo booths, games and “creepy cocktails”, and a lot of phones out.
Read that again. The bottle is the ticket. That’s the campus-tour playbook: the brand skips the gate fee and buys the crowd’s attention instead. Group costumes are encouraged. Plain hoodies are not.
Next Saturday Week: The Mith’s Big Flight
Who: The Mith hosts the So UG Experience, themed “A Flight to Uganda”, with Lilian Mbabazi, Maurice Kirya, Navio, Elijah Kitaka, Feffe, Winnie Nwagi, BigTril and Flex D’Paper among the names.
Where: Kati Kati Grounds, Kampala.
When: Saturday, November 14.
Organisers: House of Deejays and Fenon Events.
Tickets: through the organiser.
The Mith started out in the pioneering hip-hop group Klear Kut, and this one is built around his own music journey. That’s a lot of stage time to fill with a lineup that deep.
Eight names are listed, with more promised. Maurice Kirya and Winnie Nwagi on one bill is already worth the ticket. Price is not out, so ask the organisers before you budget.
Save the Date, Already
- Nyege Nyege is on for November. Dates and tickets through the organisers.
- December 4: Chameleone at Lugogo Cricket Oval, with Chris Evans booked the same night.
- December 11: Konshens at Lugogo, Nina Roz’s debut next door. The whole clash is here.
One to cross off: KCCA boss Sharifah Buzeki told Parliament’s COSASE committee the Kampala City Festival is pushed to 2027 over Ebola concerns. Don’t plan around it.
Our Pick, and Who’s Sweating
OUR PICK: Comedy Store @10. Diamond, a 10-year milestone and a guest list people are already gossiping about. If you only go to one, it’s the one with the Oval and the noise.
MOST TO PROVE: The Mith on November 14. A hosted show with a deep bill lives or dies on whether the crowd comes for the concept, not just the guests.
Last Weekend’s Report Card
- 2 Kings One Mic: A. Salvador and Dr Hillary Okello at the Serena. The Waragi-backed write-up calls it sold out, the ballroom full. A comedy head-to-head that actually delivered.
- Ice Prince at The Big Meeting: B+. The Nigerian rapper made his Ugandan debut at Thrones Lounge in Bugolobi on Sunday, running through his early-2010s hits on The Singleton’s monthly night. Nostalgia, not noise.
- TPaul’s Mbarara homecoming: A-. Bell Lager’s ObaFest write-up has thousands at Kakyeeka Stadium for the Kakoba Boy. The brand says it, so grade on a curve. TPaul still got his stadium.
- Jowy Landa in Jinja: D. MBU says she traded insults with revellers at Snap Lounge after some of them wanted her off stage. No official word on what set it off.
Friday night, Lugogo, three famous names rumoured under one sky. Don’t be late.
